How to Customize a Monochrome LCD Display

Customizing a monochrome LCD requires confirming structural dimensions, electrical parameters, optical performance, connection mode, and environmental requirements one by one. Below is a complete, step-by-step customization guide based on the parameters you provided.

  1. Dimension & Structure Design(draft drawing )
    Upper & Lower Glass
    • Upper Glass Size / Lower Glass Size: Determine length * width according to your installation space.
    • Upper Glass Thickness / Lower Glass Thickness: Common thicknesses are 0.55mm, 0.7mm, 1.1mm.
    • Window Area: The effective display area (the part where characters/patterns show up), which is smaller than the glass outline.
  2. Pin / Connection Type

Choose the interface based on your PCB and assembly method:

    • Zebra Stripes (Conductive Rubber Connector): Low cost, suitable for simple modules
    • Ribbon Cables (Flex Cable): Flexible installation, space-saving
    • Metal Pins: High reliability, easy soldering
    • Pin Spacing: Standard 0.5mm, 0.635mm, 1.0mm, 2.54mm
  3. LCD Type (Core Optical Effect)
    Liquid Crystal Mode
    • TN: Basic, low cost, general contrast
    • HTN: Higher contrast than TN
    • STN Series:
      • Y-G STN (Yellow-Green)
      • Gray STN
      • Blue STN
      • FSTN (Film-compensated STN, high contrast, wide temp)
    Display Mode
    • Reflective: Uses ambient light, no backlight
    • Semi-transparent: Supports both reflection and backlight
    • Fully Transparent: Must use backlight
    • Positive Display: Dark characters on light background
    • Negative Display: Light characters on dark background (better with backlight)
    • Mark any Special Requirements (custom color, special liquid crystal, etc.)
  4. Drive Parameters
    • Drive Voltage: Common 3.0V, 5.0V
    • Drive Frequency: Determined by IC and duty cycle
    • Drive Type:
      • Static drive: Simple, few segments, high contrast
      • Dynamic drive: For multi-segment / dot-matrix displays (1/2 duty, 1/4 duty, 1/8 duty, etc.)
  5. Viewing Angle Direction

    Set according to installation position:

    • 6 o’clock: Viewed from below (most common for handheld devices)
    • 12 o’clock: Viewed from above
    • 3 o’clock: Viewed from right
    • 9 o’clock: Viewed from left
  6. Surface Polarizer

    Select surface treatment:

    • Anti-UV: Prevents aging in sunlight
    • Anti-glare (AG): Reduces reflection, improves readability outdoors
    • Color Polarizer: Yellow-green, gray, blue, white background
    • Other Custom Polarizer
  7. Temperature Range
    • Operating Temperature: e.g. -20℃ ~ +70℃, -30℃ ~ +80℃
    • Storage Temperature: Usually wider than operating range
  8. Special Process
    • Printing: Silk-screen printing on the glass (position, color of frame, logo, background)
    • Chamfering: Corner cutting to avoid sharp edges
    • Edging: Polishing glass edges
    • Other: Anti-explosion, waterproof treatment, custom shape, etc.
